Director- Sofia Coppola
The Bling Ring is based on actual events, when from 2008 till 2009 a group of teens began burglarizing their favorite celebrities homes. It has been almost 4 years ago we learned of these teens for the first time. After they were arrested for breaking and entering into multiple homes in the greater Los Angeles area. It all started out innocently enough when star obsessed teens wanted to get inside celebrates homes; but tempted by the access what would it hurt if they took something? There was so much, who would miss it? Well an estimated 3 million dollars in goods later tells you something.
This wasn't a bunch of hoods from the LA life Ice Cube told us about in the early to mid 90's. No The Bling Ring were affluent teens out of the Valley with SUV's and A4's they were literally the life just below the super rich. One of the Bling Ring even had a reality TV deal with E! talk about gold for the network.
The Movie that is based on these events and the article "The Suspects Wore Louboutins" (http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2010/03/billionaire-girls-201003)By Nancy Jo Sales in Vanity Fair. She also helped write the screenplay with Sofia Coppola. Emma Watson leads a group of up and comers Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Claire Jullian and first time actress Georgia Rock. Taissa Farmiga Co-stars rounding out the group the of teens in The Bling Ring.
Sofia Coppola has once again shown ability to select an A-class story that should pay-off. Even if the payoff is not immediate, which I think it will. I also see this as being something that is a reflection of how distorted this era is with what the rich and famous are doing and people needing more access to their lives.
